Dengue viruses are transmitted to people through female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent. Dengue is common in more than 120 countries around the world.
Countries affected by Dengue
In Asia Pakistan, China, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were the countries affected by the Dengue Virus hundreds of people dies and thousand of dengue affected people were admitted in the hospitals.
In Pakistan, in the summer of 2011, more than 300 people died of Dengue fever. The prevalence of the disease was over 14,000. The outbreaks occurred mostly in the Lahore area. In 2017 in K.P. 10,893 cases of dengue had been laboratory confirmed by NS1 antigen test (non-structure protein). In 2019 7921 dengue cases were report with 16 deaths.
Other countries affect by Dengue Virus in American Samoa, there were 370 cases of dengue reported from May 2015 to Sept. 2, 2015, and 133 were hospitalized. Thailand reported the worst dengue virus outbreak in 20 years, with 126 deaths and 135,344 people infected with the virus, in October 2013. In 2011, Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela reported a large number of dengue cases. Paraguay reported a dengue fever outbreak in 2011, the worst since 2007. Hospitals were overcrowded, and patients had elective surgeries canceled due to the outbreak. In 2019 more than 2030 new dengue cases have been reported with 29 dead.
GICD with the help of local community is arranging aerial spraying, which kill mosquitoes. Aerial Spray treatment of the area with products that reduce both adult mosquitoes and their larvae that carry the Zika virus. Arial spraying is used as part of integrated mosquito control program to quickly reduce the number of mosquitoes. GICD is fighting against Dengue and will keep fighting against it.
